JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Health Assessment and Care
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' physical and emotional health to identify potential health concerns.
- Implement appropriate nursing interventions based on established medical protocols and guidelines.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans for students with specific medical conditions, ensuring effective treatment and monitoring.
- Coordinate emergency care for students, including notifying relevant parties, such as parents, emergency services, and administration.
- Provide health education and promote preventive health practices among students to foster overall well-being.
- Documentation and Communication
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of nursing care, observations, and treatments, adhering to established procedures.
- Utilize PowerSchool for nursing documentation, ensuring efficient and organized recordkeeping.
- Organize, compile, and maintain student health charts at each health center.
- Effectively communicate with parents regarding student health matters, including health center visits, medication refills, medical record updates, and contagious illnesses.
- Maintain monthly medication sheets for accurate tracking and management.
- Ensure daily filing of student health information and nursing documentation.
- Shift Handover: Provide clear and concise shift reports to oncoming nurses, ensuring continuity of care.
- Medication Administration
- Administer medications as prescribed for medical conditions or injuries, following established protocols.
- Schedule and dispense medications at appropriate times.
- Receive and log in medications sent from home, and return medications as needed.
- Document all medication administration accurately.
- Evaluate and document the effectiveness of as-needed (PRN) medications.
- Ensure proper disposal of expired medications.
- Facility Maintenance
- Maintain a clean and sanitary student health center environment, adhering to MOSHA standards.
- Clean and maintain health center equipment to ensure proper functioning and prevent the spread of infection.
- Replenish supplies as needed and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Additional Duties
- Attend student activities and athletic events when necessary to provide support and address health concerns.
- Supply first aid kits to classrooms and dorms for immediate access.
- Assist dorm care staff in identifying health problems or hazards.
- Ensure that dorm attendance sheets are completed accurately.
- Conduct regular rounds to monitor the health and safety of students.
- Maintain open communication with dorm supervisors and staff to address health and safety concerns.
- Coordinate with dorm staff on security or maintenance issues.
- Maintain current RN licensure and CPR for Healthcare Providers Certification.
- Perform other delegated tasks as needed.
RN REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- BSN Degree and RN License
- CPR Certification
- Preferred experience working in a school setting or with pediatric patients
- Pediatric Nursing Experience
- Knowledge of Sign Language (preferred but not required)
- Excellent Communication and Organization Skills
